you are cordially invited to...Second Annual NJ Makers Day
The Second Annual NJ Makers Day is Saturday, March 19th and the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey is ready for makers of all ages.
“Making things is a natural part of human nature and the materials and tools can range from the simple and ordinary to the high tech and less familiar,” said Selwa Shamy, SCLSNJ’s support services manager. “Simple could be paper, fabric, scissors, tape, a needle and thread. Techie can involve creating commands to animate a mechanical object using computer components. We want to provide a space for people to roll up their sleeves and inspire their creativity!”
NJ Makers Day is designed to be a statewide event that celebrates, promotes, and in many cases may introduce maker culture, as well as the values associated with making, tinkering and STEM-based learning. In 2015, the inaugural NJ Makers Day drew over 13,000 individual attendees to 130 participating sites across all 21 counties in the state. Participating locations included public and academic libraries, schools, museums, commercial makerspaces, and AC Moore stores, as well as sponsorship from such organizations as LibraryLinkNJ, littleBits Electronics and ManufactureNJ.
“Library staff in all ten branches are very excited to be participating in NJ Makers Day again,” continued Shamy. “This event gives us the opportunity to partner with organizations and smash the stereotype of the library just being a place to borrow books; we are so much more and always evolving to provide engaging programs and services for our community members.”
