Saint Patrick's Day
One of Central New Jersey’s LARGEST St. Patrick’s Day parades, Downtown Somerville regularly sees over 20,000 visitors each year to celebrate!
You might know that Saint Patrick's Day occurs annually on March 17, the date marked by the death of Saint Patrick, Ireland's most celebrated patron saint.
You might also know that the first recorded St. Patrick’s Day parade to take place in the United States took place in New York City in 1762. But did you also know that on March 17, 1780 – After the long winter of 1779-1780 in Jockey Hollow, Morristown NJ, George Washington, in recognition of the support of his Irish militiamen, gave them the day off and thus began the first St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in New Jersey!
